Ooo, I got up
before noon today. That's huge. I can conquer the world now.
So, you know how I live in a duplex. Basically, it's this narrow,
tall building. Well, it's not narrow, but it's split in two,
and we rent out one side, so now it's narrow and still very
tall. The ceilings are kind of high, so the place is drafty,
and it takes a lot of heat to fill it up and make it comfortable
in here. Well, this past month was recording breaking in temperatures.
It's one of the coldest winters in a long, long time, and I
remember feeling very comfortable in my home (gratefully). So,
here we are in this tall, drafty house with temperatures dropping
to -20s with wind chill (yes, I do mean Fahrenheit), so a shitload
of gas will be used to keep us from feeling like we're in an
igloo. Our gas bill arrived, and it's something in the $400s.
We're paying $77 a person (there are six of us) for gas this
week. Basically - a whole Tuesday night of work.
Now, my roommate suggested via email that we turn the heat completely
OFF during the day and only on a night when everyone is home.
I just replied to my roommates reminding them that I have a
night job. I am here ALL DAY while they are at work, and I'm
not at all here when they are home basking in the warmth of
a heated home. I haven't heard replies yet, but it's looking
pretty bad. Well, not really. If we all decide that I need to
bite the bullet and NOT HAVE HEAT because I work the shit night
job begging people bring them spinach dips, then I'll just have
to deal with it and wear sweatersnot. Or, I'll just turn the
fucking heat on because I live here too and want to be warm.
We'll have to come up with a new plan. It's cold out, this is
what happens when it's cold. You pay for heat. We could go caveman
style and just like a fire in the middle of the house. Let's
look at weather.com together, shall we?
Okay, it's a "warm" week. Mid-thirties.
One of my roommates just emailed me and pointed out that because
our house has cheap windows, we lose a lot of heat. Never thought
it of, but it's so true. It's freezing by the windows. That's
not supposed to be like that. So, I guess it's our landlord's
fault, and he's not going to replace all the windows now, so
we're basically screwed. My life rocks.
I almost headed to the gym, and then I remembered I have a waxing
today. Did I tell you I found the best waxer in New York and
Boston put together? Totally painless, completely what I ask
for in style, AND really good price. My only problem is that
it's in downtown Boston. Such a bitch to get to, and I'll be
leaving Boston at rush hour. Nightmare. I'm going to cry. No,
I'm not...I'm feeling pretty good today.
I need to eat something before I go through with this. I'll
write later.
I have to work tonigh though, so hopefully you'll be hearing
from me.
I'm going to post this now. Remember that the mission
4 is posted and a new Random called "Real
World Regrets." |
